Twp. Tax Goes Up 2 Years In A Row Promises Broken Again, While Press Covers Up The people of Barnegat are in serious trouble. In the middle of an economic crisis of historic proportions, our friends and neighbors are losing their retirement savings...some are losing their jobs...some are losing their homes...and every one of us has seen our home value go down. So what does every Republican member of the Twp. Committee do for us??? That's right...they raise the TWP. TAX 5.3 % , that is on top of the 8.6 % hike they hit us with last year! If this isn't bad enough, exactly 2 years ago these same Committeemen promised the people of Barnegat that "if you trust us with your vote we promise to keep taxes stable." That is a promise broken to the hard-working people of Barnegat. That is a promise broken to our children. That is a promise broken to the elderly. That is a promise broken to each and every one of us...as we will all truly suffer together during the hard times ahead. Do these "leaders", "businessmen", "politicians" take any responsibility? Sadly, in Barnegat that has become a rhetorical question. Of course no, they won't. When the most recent tax hike was first announced, The Beacon put it on page 6. That was not a typo...that was a six. What was the top story in Barnegat that week? The top story was that another Wawa was coming to town. It would be funny if it wasn't so disturbing. But The Beacon did a better job than The Press of Atlantic City. This is a direct quote "Last year, although the municipal tax rate did not increase, a revaluation and a 22-cent school tax increase resulted in some residents paying hundreds or thousands of dollars more per year." The TRUTH is that EVERY tax payer paid 8.6 % more in TWP. TAX that year. The statement made by the Press "Last year, although the municipal tax rate did not increase..." IS DEAD WRONG!. Where did the reporter get this information? And why were the people of Barnegat deceived in such a despicable manner? One more very important fact must be made known. When you read our local Press you will never read the fact that as the people of Barnegat went to the polls 2 years ago, they were promised a stable tax rate if we elected Republican Committeemen. WE WERE LIED TO! If you would like more proof, click here. The website for that campaign is still online. Read the bold letters that say "Finally at all times, we will work to keep taxes both stable and low." Some will cry political bias for pointing out facts and serious lies by a "politician", "businessmen", or whatever they call themselves. These people - just like the politicians who lie to us -- are cowards. They cannot debate facts because they are dishonest and biased themselves. For those of us who have to pay the bills...this is serious. Our taxes keep going up and we get very little in return. When will it stop? Like many of you sitting around the kitchen table this month wondering how you are going to make ends meet...we know things cannot continue as they are. Also like many of you, we want a better Barnegat. If not for ourselves, for our children. Unfortunately as we pay our tax bill, we know we were lied to. We also know the Press is not doing its job. And finally we know WE have to do something about it...and so do you! On October 21st, look at the answers to our Candidates Forum 2008. Let's give each candidate a FAIR UNBIASED CHANCE to see what they have to say. If the Press won't give us the truth, it's up to every one of us to FIND the truth, and it starts right here with these candidate questions. Look at each answer closely because the future of Barnegat will be in your hands on November 4th. It is our duty to be fully informed when we pull that lever.
