Basic infrastructure in pathetic shape in Downtown Barnegat
How long is it going to be this way?

(click here to see new pictures of Rt. 9 and Rosehill Rd)

(Right) This is what a "sidewalk" looks like in Historic downtown Barnegat. It has been this way for the 6 years we have lived here...it's not paved, with no cut-outs for strollers or wheelchairs. We walk on this every day... we're tired of it not being taken care of.
(Left) is Memorial Drive (also in downtown area) which is in horrible shape with no drainage and needs to be repaved. It has been patched so much it is a joke. According to the paper, the township money has been allocated to repave this road...how long do we have to wait to get safe sidewalks and roads?
It is the township's responsibility to provide adequate infrastructure to all its citizens. That is part of what our tax dollars should be spent on. In the downtown area there are inadequate sidewalks (or non-existent in some case), no cut-outs for strollers or wheelchairs in several locations, and many streets are in severe disrepair and need to be repaved. Nothing has changed or been improved in the 6 years we have been here. This is unacceptable. We must demand that BASIC INFRASTRUCTURE is provided to ALL the people of Barnegat Twp.

NEW!

The new pictures below were suggested by a viewer of DowntownBarnegat.com, who emailed us about the poor condition of Rosehill Road - closest to Rt 9. This viewer is a downtown Barnegat resident and often uses that road to avoid traffic on West Bay Ave, while dropping kids off at school. This viewer says that within a few yards from Route 9 there is a deep pothole in the middle of Rosehill, & (a few more yards up) there is another deep hole. Fortunately, this person drives that road while it is daylight and, being aware of the potholes, can avoid them at night. Not so lucky is person who's not so aware!
