One part of the playground equipment ripped out of Van Note field (behind Edwards School) has resurfaced. Our only downtown playground was taken away from us this Spring (see related story - "Stealing Candy From Babies"). Is this a sign that we could be getting it back? That would be a great thing for all the children in our area who have been without a playground they could walk to for the entire summer.

Congratulations to whomever was involved in doing the right thing -- hopefully bringing every piece of playground equipment back to all the children of Barnegat.

Now there has been no official word on what's going on here, and hopefully this playground will be open to everyone...just as it was before. We don't have much downtown for our kids...their Youth Center looks like it's going away, the Edwards School was not available for Our Gang's summer program, and if your child wanted to play a little basketball, or baseball, or simply run in the grass, swing on a swing or slide down a sliding board they couldn't do that in downtown Barnegat this summer.

Let's hope that our town leaders do the right thing and simply give us back what they took away.
